Position Overview

Under the direction of the City Council, the City Manager serves as the chief executive officer for the City of Ione, providing leadership and representation for all matters concerning the City government. The City Manager’s Office leads financial and budget management processes for the City and directs the City’s efforts to plan for the future. The City Manager’s office performs research, suggests policy development and direction for City Council, and evaluates potential public programs and grants. 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in public administration or a related field and have at least five years’ experience serving as an executive-level (department head or higher) municipal employee. Possession of a Master’s degree is highly desired but not required.

  • Serving in an organization with a council-manager form of government
  • Successfully implementing economic strategies
  • Wastewater management
  • Administering, reporting, and application of federal, state, and private grants
  • Developer negotiation and agreement experience that can be verified

Benefits

The compensation for this position is an annual base salary of $135,000-$160,000 DOE/DOQ and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision. The benefits package includes life insurance, vacation, sick, holiday, administrative leave, and two floating holidays. The City of Ione participates in CalPERS retirement. In accordance with CalPERS regulations, CalPERS Retirees (Annuitants) may serve for no more than 960 hours in an Interim Capacity and are eligible for salary only (Annuitants are not eligible for benefits.)
