Position Characteristics

The Management Analyst position is the first level in an analyst classification series. The Management Analyst will develop skills and experience working as part of a cohesive analyst team as well as from our team of experienced public sector professionals. These experiences will prepare the Management Analyst for higher levels within the organization. Management Partners encourages and supports continued professional development for all employees.

Typical Job Functions

Positions at the management analyst level may perform some of these duties and responsibilities in a learning capacity, depending on prior experience. 

Under the direction of a project manager, typical assignments may include:

  • Gathering data from publicly available sources, as well as direct contact with clients
  • Designing and administering surveys and other data gathering tools
  • Conducting complex analytical research, including comparative analyses, best practice research, budget analysis and strategies, and service delivery studies
  • Collaborating with project team to prepare analysis, recommendations and implementation plans for clients, including written reports and visual presentations
  • Supporting strategic planning and Council/Management Team workshops 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate possesses genuine curiosity about local governments and is willing to ask questions but also able to work independently while researching new topics. This position will operate in a multi-task environment and coordinate many assignments simultaneously, so at a minimum the applicant should be able to effectively plan, organize and prioritize competing responsibilities to complete work in a timely and accurate manner. We are looking for someone who is creative and eager to explore new analytical tools and presentation techniques.

Education and Experience

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, or a related field; a master’s degree in public administration or related field preferred. Familiarity with local government organizations (cities and counties) is desirable, as is experience working in local government. 

Must be inquisitive and adaptable, and have good writing, analytical, and computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is essential (i.e., Word, Excel PowerPoint) and experience with Visio and SharePoint is preferred.
