The Parks and Recreation Director manages a budget of $4.5 million, supervises 9 full-time staff, about 200 seasonal and temporary staff and is responsible for an array of programs and activities from recreational preschool to health and fitness classes, and sports to cultural enrichment events. There are programs and services for seniors and active older adults, children, teens and families. With support from a seven-member Parks and Recreation Commission, the Department plays an important role in building a quality organization where all residents have opportunities to live, work and play in a safe, stimulating and diverse community.
The City is seeking an experienced, hands-on parks and recreation professional who enjoys the challenge of working in a lean, dynamic, fast-paced environment with a focus on delivering results. He/she should have a proven performance record managing significant departmental priorities and recreational activities for a customer base that values and expects a high quality of life and various activities that appeal to a diverse community. The Director should possess a can-do attitude and welcome the chance to engage the public in designing future facilities and programs.
We are searching for an accessible and responsive leader with the ability to bring all segments of the Antioch community together. This individual should exhibit extraordinary leadership skills as well as extensive experience in customer service and responsiveness to internal and external customer needs. Innovative, yet pragmatic, the new Parks and Recreation Director will have the opportunity to connect with residents and elicit insights and gather valuable information representing different interests and perspectives. We are searching for a candidate that will immerse themselves in the community to truly understand the needs of Antioch residents.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/TRAINING – Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, business or public administration or a related field required.
EXPERIENCE – Five years of management and/or administrative experience in parks and recreation supervision or closely related field.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE – Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
