The City of Walnut Creek is seeking a skilled Planning Manager to oversee development projects that shape the City’s commercial, residential, and economic advancements. The Planning Manager will exhibit positive leadership both within the organization and in the community, encouraging a pro-business environment within the department. The ideal candidate will be recognized as a problem-solver who anticipates issues and is proactive. This leader will advocate for transparency and ethical values, even when decisions made may not be popular. He/she will have the ability to resolve sensitive and controversial matters, by crafting alternatives that are comprehensive and well-executed.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Urban Studies, City and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Public Administration, or related field. A Master’s degree in a related field and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification are highly desirable. A minimum of five (5) years of extensive, increasingly responsible administrative and supervisory experience in urban planning, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
The annual salary range for the Planning Manager position is $133,832 – $186,866; placement within this range is dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The City also offers a generous benefits package.
