Are you ready to make a lasting impact on your community while advancing your career in public service? The City of Napa is seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to lead our Engineering and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Team within the Public Works Department.
Reporting to the Deputy Public Works Director, you will manage a division of eleven (11) engineers and paraprofessional staff and the City’s Five-Year Capital Improvement Program, which averages $15–$20 million annually. The CIP encompasses a wide range of vital community projects from bike and pedestrian pathways, street and traffic upgrades, and building renovations to parks and public facility improvements. These projects are funded through the General Fund and a variety of special revenue sources including Measure U, a half-cent sales tax that generates approximately $10 million annually for maintenance, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of the City’s streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure, and Measure G, which further supports sustainable investments in Napa’s long-term infrastructure needs.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned licensed Civil Engineer and leader who excels at managing multiple projects, mentoring staff, and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation. You will work closely with internal departments, outside agencies, and the community to ensure that public works projects reflect the City’s priorities and vision for a vibrant, sustainable, and resilient future.
We’re seeking a candidate who demonstrates technical excellence, emotional intelligence, strategic decision-making, and strong project management skills.
