You know the scene: A double date of some sort, maybe at a restaurant. The ladies have to use the restroom, and as is tradition, the two depart together.

Well, Snellville, Ga. Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer is looking to start his own tradition: Having the city police act as escorts to the bathroom.

Oberholtzer, the mayor of the Atlanta suburb, says he fears his public safety around city council member, Robert Jenkins, following a verbal altercation months ago and is using a police escort to the restroom.

Even the city’s police chief, Roy Whitehead, has held honors.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Shane Blatt may have put it best: “Incivility in Snellville politics has gone to the toilet —- literally.”
