PublicCEO is committed to protecting the privacy of readers who visit our website. Just like our daily newsletter, the PCEO website is a fundamental tool, furthering our mission to connect readers with best practices, inventive ideas, perspective on trends and access to opportunities in local government.

This privacy policy is intended to inform our readers of how we gather, use and protect information they supply by visiting the PCEO website or subscribing to the PCEO daily newsletter. Please read through it carefully and reach out to us at Editor@PublicCEO.com if you have any questions.

First Things First

We never give, sell or transfer any of your information to third-party organizations. The only information we really have about you is your name (maybe), your email if you are on our email list and some knowledge that your IP address or browser visited our website. The point is, we don’t have a lot to sell. ;-)

The Information We Collect and How We Use It

WEBSITE

If you do nothing during your visit but browse through our website, read pages or download information, our website automatically gathers and stores certain information about your visit. This information does not identify you personally. Rather, we use this information to help us make our website more useful to visitors, to learn about the number of visitors to our website and understand the types of technology our visitors use.

Only the following information about your visit is automatically collected and stored:

  1. The Internet domain (for example, “youragency.gov” if you connect from a government domain, “yourschool.edu” if you connect from a university’s domain, or “xcompany.com” if you use a private Internet access account) and IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access our website;
  2. The type of browser and operating system used to access our website;
  3. The date and time you access our website;
  4. The pages you visit; and
  5. If you linked to our Web site from another website, the address of that website.

The logs may be preserved indefinitely, and they may be used to prevent security breaches and to ensure the integrity of the data on our servers.

We accomplish this with Google Analytics, the standard tool for website metrics that is used by the majority of website you visit on the Internet. It is pretty typical. See more below.

EMAIL

PublicCEO collects your email address if you choose to sign up for our daily newsletter. We store your email in our email software system, Constant Contact, in order to send you the newsletter you requested.

Users who do not wish to receive further email information from PublicCEO have easy and accessible options for unsubscribing from our newsletters. Simply select the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of each email newsletter.
