Nothing good ever happens after 2 a.m. – even for government officials.

A Niagra Falls, N.Y. councilman was arrested at 3 a.m. on Saturday morning at a local tavern for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after exchanging words with police officers. According to the Buffalo News, police said Steven Fournier was “highly intoxicated” and confronted police about being harassed by another man at the watering hole.

When he came to his own conclusion that the police were ignoring his issue, he began cussing at them and made a racist comment.
Police told him essentially to quiet down, but the 36-year-old councilman instead lunged at the throat of an officer before being taken down.

Quoted in the Buffalo News article, Fournier defended himself:

“I had just got there [at Bragg’s],” he said. “I went to say good night to my friend Paulie [Morreale], the owner. As I walked in, there was a fight rolling out. A black guy pushed me, I pushed him back, and the next thing I know I’m getting grabbed from behind.”

“I turned around and realized it was a cop [and] the next thing I know, I’m getting locked up.”
