There has been a great deal of grim news over the last weeks and months about the state’s budget crisis. We are pleased to now send you some good news from NACo.

Davidson County (Nashville), TN – California officials were proud and excited to witness Sonoma County Supervisor Valerie Brown being sworn in as the President of the National Association of Counties.  Valerie joins Sandra Smoley (Sacramento County) and Ann Klinger (Merced County) as Presidents of NACo from California in the past 40 years.

Valerie gave a stirring speech in which she noted the strong support of her fellow supervisors in Sonoma County, as well as the support she felt from around the state by county officials.  She also singled out the CSAC staff as a tremendous support group that keeps her informed on issues.  We join all Californians in the pride we feel for Valerie and her representation of our state and our congratulations to her for reaching this level of her career.

Not only does California enjoy having the presidency of NACo, many California officials have been appointed to positions on policy committees within NACo.  Working with Valerie on issues of national importance will be:
