Someone deserves credit – but who?

Derek J. Moore from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat did an excellent job with a tough article last Friday about State Senator Pat Wiggins.

PublicCEO does not take positions on political issues such as the choice of the State Senator representing the north coast.  However, it has become increasingly difficult to feel confident in the elected leadership of Wiggins as Chair of the Senate Local Government Committee.

Thankfully, everyone knows that Chief Consultant Peter Detwiler is really the person in charge anyway.

Once Moore’s article brought the issue forward, it simply had to be handled.  Some, like local school trustee David Rosas, have made unflattering comments about the Senator.  Others, like local Assemblywoman Noreen Evans, have chosen to be more reserved.

In the end, either Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, another Senator, a member of Wiggins’ staff, or maybe Moore, deserves credit for getting to the right spot on this issue. Many of us are dealing with similar issues at home or in business.

It is a challenge to balance the public good against the personal dignity of the person.

For all of those people who have regular business with the Senate Local Government Committee, a thank you is in order for those responsible for guiding Wiggins to her decision to leave the State Senate.
