Here are a couple of newsworthy ordinances that passed on Tuesday:
- The city of Galt (south of Sacramento) has approved an ordinance to build a 137,000-foot Wal-Mart. The City Council approved the 11.26-acre project on Tuesday night.
- The San Luis Obispo City Council gave final approval to ban smoking in most areas open to the public.
The new law prohibits smoking on sidewalks and in parking garages, bars, restaurants, stores, stadiums, playgrounds and transit centers. San Luis Obispo is now one of two dozen other California cities with the ban.
