Everyone has moments where they wish they would have spoken their mind. The perfect insult, the proper compliment, the words of wisdom which can go unsaid – but that didn’t happen in Hercules.

With the appropriate blending of both rebuke and words of wisdom, the Assistant City Manager resigned during a City Council meeting on Tuesday.

Citing poor treatment of city employees, as well as monumentally mishandled finances, Lisa Hammon turned in her ID card, keys, and other official documents.

The fun didn’t end there, as residents took to the microphone asking for the city manager  to resign, and the city to re-instate recently fired interim city manager.

On an evening high on drama, Hercules Assistant City Manager Lisa Hammon stunned a packed City Council gallery Tuesday, announcing her resignation after blasting the city’s financial practices and treatment of some of its employees, some of whom, she said, had “sold their souls.”

“I hope to keep my integrity intact,” Hammon said, adding that she wanted to salvage her professional reputation, moments before she tossed a manila envelope with what she said was her card key and other official items onto the dais in front of City Manager Nelson Oliva, and walked briskly out of the meeting.
