Bill Cosby used to host a show called Kids Say the Darnedest Things. But it seems that in Modoc County, the better show would be You Can’t Believe What that Supervisor Just Said.

That’s because at a recent Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Loren Crabtree talked about what he saw at an auction in Woodland. “There was people from all over the world and some of them had rags around their heads.”

At this point, normal people would stop themselves, realizing that they were sticking their foot in their mouth. This is also when my dog, Doodle, would stop, tilt her head to the side as though to question, “Did he really just say that?”

If there was any doubt that something ridiculous was happening, the Supervisor then continued speaking. According to the Modoc County Daily News the Supervisor said that “‘They were from another world,’ but ‘I didn’t ask them to show their home base or anything.'”

What?

The Supervisor has since said that he didn’t intend for the comments to be taken as a racial slur, nor did he mean for “rags” to be thought of as derogatory, he just didn’t know the words turban or pagri.

His apology was as eloquent as his accidental slur. “I never thought about offending any body or a racial slur. I didn’t mean to do that. If I did, I hope somebody didn’t take it that way. I’m not used to that stuff.”
