According to the Publication of Ordinances section on the City of Santa Cruz’s website, the City of Santa Cruz passed 11 ordinances in 2011. Below are some of those that were passed by the council.
January
Changed parking meter rates to a variable rate. This increased the rate the longer a person was parked and removed time limits on short-term meters, allowing longer stays. Click here to view
February
Abolished the City of Santa Cruz’s Information Technology Department and created an inistrative Services Department combing Information Technology and the Human Resources divisions. Click here to view
March
Repealed the current City ordinance which prohibited persons from parking vehicles on City streets with “for sale” posted on the vehicle. Click here to view
July
Added a new section pertaining to dogs in the City of Santa Cruz. Dogs were prohibited in downtown Santa Cruz until this ordinance established a three-month trial period, through November 30, 2011, in which dogs, subject to certain conditions and requirements were allowed in downtown Santa Cruz during daylight hours. Adopted additional regulations for surf schools to obtain a permit for teaching surf lessons in Cowell Beach Waters. Click here to view
October
Established a posted speed limit of 30 mph on two additional streets: North Branciforte Avenue, between Water and Fairmount and Ocean Street between Broadway and Water Street. Click here to view
