The City of Dublin was given a prestigious honor in 2011 being named an All-America City by the National Civic League. This award coincides with the 30th anniversary of Dublin’s incorporation this year. Staff has developed an All-America City — 30th Year Event to celebrate these two momentous occasions and is seeking Council approval to move forward in planning. The ad hoc committee tasked with discussing this event has estimated the total cost will be $15,000 – $20,000.
Dignitaries from Dublin including former Mayors and Councilmembers will be invited to the event to share memories and the city’s great history. Staff is exploring family friendly games and activities including sack races, one legged races, water balloon toss, face painting, and tractor/wagon rides. In addition, Staff is recommending a staged concert featuring American blues music and an informal performance by a local folk musician.
This celebration will likely be held around July 4th giving Dublin an opportunity to celebrate each event simultaneously in the summer.
City Manager Joni Patillo submitted this report to the Council on February 7, 2012.
