South Pasadena is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented individual for the position of Assistant City Manager – responsible for managing staff in human resources and risk management, working proactively to recruit small businesses and providing support to existing local businesses. This person will also work with the executive management team to evaluate service delivery effectiveness and implement best practices to realize efficiencies in public service delivery.

A successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree highly desirable) in public policy, public administration, urban planning or a related field; including coursework in economic development. Additionally, a minimum of five years of experience in local government with progressively responsible positions in a variety of roles within municipal administration, including two years at the Assistant City Manager, Assistant to City Manager or Department Director level. It is preferred that academic and professional experience includes public employment labor negotiations, risk management and small business development.

The position offers a salary range of $8,211 to $11,003 per month, paid leave, and a competitive benefits package that includes a 2%@55 CalPERS formula. The city covers all but 2% of the employee contributions, up to $715 per month for health insurance, as well as dental and vision.

More than offering professional opportunity, South Pasadena continues to be a place to call home. Residents honor their community’s traditions by conducting their own, long-running 4th of July Parade, known as the Festival of Balloons. Residents also craft the city’s own float for the New Year’s Tournament of Roses Parade, held annually a few miles north.
