The odd case of the former San Fernando city council continues spiraling further into the bizarre. The vandalism and battery case against one former councilwoman was dismissed after the former mayor failed to appear at court.

As you may recall, Mayor Mario Hernandez admitted in a city council meeting that he was carrying on an affair with councilwoman Maribel De La Torre. Hernandez’s wife was in the audience at the time. That revelation, along with other decisions and actions taken while on the Council, led to their recall.

However, before the recall the pair’s relationship deteriorated and the police were called to the scene of a domestic disturbance after the former councilwoman allegedly attacked the former mayor and in the process destroyed some of his property.

Hernandez was to be the star witness in the case against De La Torre, but his non-appearance caused the charges against her to be dismissed. It was also a violation of a subpoena, and a bench-warrant was issued for Hernandez’s arrest.
