People in Marin County aren’t waiting for the federal government to act on guns, they are participating in a gun buyback program with so much enthusiasm that the program ran out of money. Vouchers were issued instead.
In one day, more than 827 weapons were turned into police officers at several stations. The District Attorney, Ed Berberian, launched the program after the shooting at Sandy Hook, and allocated $40,000 towards the purchase of unwanted guns.
Guns were exchanged for either $200 or $100, depending upon the type of weapon that was surrendered.
Next week, the weapons will be destroyed.
