The city of Westminster and Westminster Police Department are reporting the upcoming funeral services for James “Mitch” Waller 53 from Mission Viejo. The services will be held at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa located in Santa Ana on July 10, 2013 at 1:00pm. The services will be open to the public.

Waller was killed on June 28th   after being struck by a vehicle as he road his bicycle on Laguna Canyon Road.   He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Waller was a popular, long time employee of the City of Westminster.  He joined the Westminster Police Department in 1984 as a probationary police officer and rose through the ranks, working a number of assignments as a motor officer, narcotics investigator, SWAT officer and later SWAT Commander. He promoted through the ranks from sergeant, lieutentant to Captain where he served until he reached the pinnacle of his law enforcement career when selected as Police Chief in 2009. Waller was instrumental with developing and constructing the Westminster Police Department’s new police building. In 2011 the city tasked Waller with switching positions to city hall as City Manager. He remained in that position until his retirement in 2012. He is married to Sally Waller, and they have two children.
