What happens when the narco steals the Norco?

Last week, Concord police officer Matthew Switzer was charged with several accounts relating to his alleged theft of prescription drugs from local seniors.

Specifically, Switzer was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary, one count of fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs and one count of elder abuse, according to reports from the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office and CBS SF.

Switzer is accused of using his status as a police officer to enter into the homes of a Concord-based senior apartment complex and pocketing the prescription drug Norco.

Concord Police Chief Guy Swanger was tipped off by a senior resident who suspected Switzer of theft. An investigation ensued and Switzer resigned on Friday, turning himself in to the authorities. He was booked in Contra Costa’s county jail in Martinez the same day.
