When the Seattle Police Department received a request for all of its dashboard and body camera video footage, they didn’t fight it; instead, they uploaded all the footage to YouTube.
Voice of San Diego’s Liam Dillon makes a guest appearance on this week’s podcast to talk with Mike Wagers, the chief operating officer with the Seattle police, about what prompted that bold move and how being so open has effected officers.
On the flip-side of the transparency scale, of course, is District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, who announced this week that her office would not be pressing charges in a recent officer-involved shooting. Though Dumanis said that surveillance footage shows the shooting was justified, her office still said it won’t release the footage.
