In 2004, San Diego City Council adopted a “percent for art” initiative to help pay for public art.

The program pulls a small percentage of funds from both public and private development projects that qualify.

Other cities around the county are in the middle of developing similar percent for art programs, which is something a representative of the local building association isn’t happy about.

On this week’s San Diego Explained, VOSD’s Kinsee Morlan and NBC 7 San Diego’s Monica Dean discuss San Diego’s public art policy and its effect on the community.
