Three MISAC leaders—President Bryon Horn, Chief Information Officer for the City of Fresno, Northern Chapter Representative Gaurav Garg, Chief Information Officer for the City of Santa Clara, and Vice President Tim Williamsen, Information Technology Manager for the City of Petaluma—presented on Getting the Most Value from Your City’s Technology Investment at the League of California Cities’ Annual Conference & Expo at the Sacramento Convention Center on September 15. The session was facilitated by Jim Lewis, City Manager of Pismo Beach.
The session’s content touched on information technology’s role in municipal government, along with user expectations and how IT has evolved from supporting internal services to directly enabling city outcomes.
Lewis emphasized the value of allocating budget and staff resources to information technology, saying, “You can’t afford not to invest in IT.”
Panelists Horn, Garg and Williamsen educated their audience on topics including technology strategy, systems, Geographic Information Systems, citizen engagement, apps, smart cities, Internet of Things, records and email retention, in addition to sharing advice and experiences on how to make the most of technology investments.
“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to share our members’ knowledge of current and timely topics,” said Horn. “MISAC is committed to stewarding the beneficial impact of management information systems for municipalities.”
