The California Joint Powers Insurance Authority (California JPIA) offers members career-enhancing opportunities to participate in Authority academies. Academies are training seminars that primarily focus on specific public sector disciplines including: Human Resources, Leadership, Management, Newly Elected Officials, Parks & Recreation, Public Works, and Risk Management.
Authority academies are multi-day training seminars that present essential theories and techniques in order to provide pragmatic solutions to solving everyday problems. Presented by qualified subject-matter experts that understand the role of risk management in member operations, academies are designed to expand the abilities of managers, supervisors, and leaders in areas including delegating, motivating, organizing, and working under pressure. Attendees learn how to apply these skills which will enable them to meet the daily demands of their agency while exhibiting ethical standards among employees and citizens.
The Authority hosted seven successful academies in 2019: the Risk Management Academy in January, the Parks & Recreation Academy in February, the Leadership Academy in March, the Human Resources Academy in April, the Newly Elected Officials Academy and Public Works Academy in June, and the Management Academy in September.
“We are proud to offer so many academies each year and to support the ongoing education and training of members,” said Michelle Aguayo, California JPIA Training Coordinator. “In 2019, we had so much interest from members that we increased the maximum number of attendees from 25 to 30 for several of our academies.”
