City of Santa Cruz logoSanta Cruz City Manager Martín Bernal has announced the appointment of Kim Krause to the position of Finance Director for the City of Santa Cruz, effective July 20, 2020.

Krause brings more than 30 years of municipal government experience, with 16 years in the position of finance director for cities in California, Washington and Oregon. She comes to Santa Cruz from the City of Placentia, Calif., where she prepared and maintained a $229 million budget, managed the annual audit, developed and implemented financial policies and procedures, and managed utility billing and assessment/local improvement districts, among other responsibilities.

Krause is an award-winning municipal finance professional who has been recognized for her excellence in budget presentation and financial reporting. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC.

“Kim will be an incredible asset to the City of Santa Cruz. Her deep financial knowledge and breadth of experience across a number of municipal environments will be crucial as we navigate the financial challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Bernal.

Krause and her husband are in the process of transitioning to a permanent residence in the Santa Cruz area.
