At a special meeting on August 30, 2021, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council approved the filing of a formal complaint with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) seeking relief from recurring power outages suffered by the community.
“We understand the significant impacts these outages have on our community and the City is exploring every action available to find and implement a solution,” said Mayor Terry Walker.
The community has experienced an unusually high volume of unplanned power outages over the last two months, which poses risks to the health, safety and welfare of residents and business owners. At recent meetings, the City Council has heard concerns and frustrations from the community as well as a presentation from SCE on circuit reliability. Based on these factors, the City Council determined that further action was needed to address and rectify recurring outages.
For several years, excessive power outages have been commonplace in La Cañada Flintridge compared to surrounding communities. The City Council, in its quest to pursue all possible avenues to encourage SCE’s resolution of this recurring problem, decided to pursue this unusual action.
The complaint requests a formal review by the CPUC to investigate the causes of the recurring outages and to make a determination as to the appropriateness of SCE’s response efforts.
