The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) has teamed up with GetSetUp, the premier online learning service for adults ages 55 and older, to provide hundreds of live online classes to keep people mentally, physically and socially active. Classes are interactive, easy to join, offered day and night, and are free for LBPL card holders. To encourage eligible card holders to utilize GetSetUp as a lifelong learning resource, LBPL is hosting a live virtual workshop with GetSetUp experts at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2022.
“This is a great resource for our senior community and can help older adults live healthier, happier, and more connected lives from the comfort of home,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “The Library’s continued effort to reach out and provide these services is a testament to their dedication to keep patrons connected.”
The virtual workshop will kick off with a welcome from the California State Library and will provide an overview of offered classes, a step-by-step guide to learn how to use GetSetUp, and assistance with booking the first class and inviting friends to join.
Eligible card holders can register for the virtual workshop by visiting the GetSetUp event page on EventBrite. Prior to the event, registered attendees will receive an email with a unique password to easily join the workshop, and everyone who registers will receive a link to a recorded version of the event in the event they are unable to join live.
The live, virtual classes available on GetSetUp include topics such as cooking, travel, technology and photography, and are taught by instructors who are 55 and older. Users can choose from a catalog of over 2,000 classes, with more than 500 classes offered every week and more than 40 classes each day on weekdays and more than 25 each day on weekends, including classes in Mandarin and Hindi. GetSetUp also offers numerous interest groups and lunch groups each day.
Classes on GetSetUp are available for free to Long Beach Public Library patrons through funding provided by the California State Library as part of the American Rescue Plan Act.
“We are happy to be able to offer GetSetUp for our patrons and greatly appreciate the support of the California State Library,” said Library Director Glenda Williams. “This workshop will help patrons get the most out of this amazing resource.”
