The City of Foster City is pleased to announce that Stefan Chatwin has been selected to be hired as the next City Manager. Following a thorough and extensive search, Mr. Chatwin was identified by the City Council as the preferred candidate to serve as the new City Manager, and his contract will be considered for approval at the upcoming meeting Monday, June 20.
“We are delighted to welcome Stefan Chatwin to Foster City, and we are excited for the leadership, right focus and stability he will bring to the City and the direction he will help guide this community,” said Mayor Richa Awasthi. “Stefan is a natural leader, and we are confident his combination of experience and management skills will make him a tremendous asset to Foster City and will play a key role in setting us up to realize our potential as a City.”
Mr. Chatwin has 20 years of experience in the public sector, most recently working as City Manager in Fairfield and Imperial, California. Prior to that, he served similar roles in Hayden, Idaho and Santaquin, Utah. He also worked previously as a Director of Community Services in Ogden, Utah, and has experience in the private sector while having also served in the U.S. Air Force. He has a degree from Brigham Young University and an ICMA-CM certificate.
Mr. Chatwin will assume the City Manager’s position in Foster City from Interim City Manager Edmund Suen, who will return to his previous position as Finance Director. Mr. Suen assumed the role of Interim City Manager in April when former Interim City Manager Kevin Miller returned to retirement.
“Foster City is an ideal opportunity for me and my family and we look forward to being part of this community for many years,” said Mr. Chatwin. “I feel both humbled and privileged for the opportunity to join an outstanding team of employees and work with the engaged and dedicated elected officials, community leaders, and citizens here.”
The City Council will consider approving an employment agreement for the new City Manager at the next meeting Monday, June 20.
