In April 2023, the City of Hercules appointed Eibleis Melendez to become the official City Clerk, after serving as the Acting City Clerk since 2022.
Eibleis first joined the City of Hercules in 2021 as a part-time employee in the Public Works Department where she managed the City’s landscape contracts and offered department oversight. Her valuable contributions to the department led her to become the full-time senior clerk in the City Clerk’s Office the following year. Now, in her third year of serving the City, Eibleis will be taking on the new role of city clerk.
“Eibleis’ unwavering passion for her role, exceptional commitment to our residents, and tireless work ethic make her the ideal candidate for the position of Hercules’ City Clerk,” remarked Mayor Alexander Walker-Griffin. “With her years of experience with the City, I am confident in her abilities and look forward to seeing her future accomplishments.”
While serving as the Acting City Clerk, Eibleis demonstrated expertise in the City’s web-based agenda and documentation process, as well as streamlining the City’s records management system and providing support for public meetings across all departments. Her experience has provided her with a valuable understanding of the priorities and operations of each City department. Currently pursuing her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation, Eibleis is steadfast in her commitment to preserving official records, ensuring the integrity of City elections, and serving the public to the best of her ability in her role as city clerk.
“I am deeply humbled to accept this role,” stated Eibleis. “The opportunity to serve the public as city clerk is not something I take lightly. I intend to uphold and honor City processes and do all I can to support our City Council and community.”
Her responsibilities will also include handling public inquiries, making arrangements for official events, and performing the duties of a compliance officer for statutes at the local, state and federal level. Ultimately, the City Clerk’s office plays a vital role in ensuring transparency to residents throughout all aspects of City procedures.
Beyond her professional qualifications in the City Clerk’s office, Eibleis is familiar with the local landscape as a California native. After growing up in Southern California, she moved to the Bay Area after earning her degree in Environmental Horticulture Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Prior to working with the City of Hercules, Eibleis dedicated five years of her career to the East Bay Regional Park District in the Botanic Garden at Tilden.
Following her time at East Bay Regional Park District, Eibleis worked as a stay-at-home mother for several years to raise her three children before re-entering the workforce within local government. In her new role, Eibleis will be able to utilize her extensive experience, passion and skill set to serve the community.
