MMANC logoThe Municipal Managers Association of Northern California (MMANC) is thrilled to announce its inaugural equity summit, happening on Friday, March 15th! This groundbreaking event serves as a testament to MMANC’s deep commitment to building a more inclusive and representative local government landscape.

Building on the momentum of the International City/County Management Association’s (ICMA) first Equity Summit in 2021, and after a year and a half of careful planning, MMANC is proud to host this inaugural event. In 2022, MMANC further emphasized its commitment to diversity by signing a letter in support of ICMA’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Efforts. Now, this summit represents a significant step forward, designed to spark vital conversations, build connections and offer practical strategies for increasing equity, diversity and inclusion within our municipalities. But time is running out – registration closes Monday, March 11!

Summit Theme: Equitable Representation – Advancing BIPOC Leadership in Local Government

This year’s inaugural MMANC equity summit centers on the crucial theme of “Equitable Representation: Advancing BIPOC Leadership in Local Government.” This focus reflects MMANC’s dedication to building a future where local government truly represents the communities it serves.

The Importance of Representation

When local governments reflect the rich diversity of the communities they serve, everyone benefits. Equitable representation, including the advancement of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) leadership, is essential for creating policies and programs that address the needs and priorities of all community members. This summit will explore strategies for dismantling systemic barriers that prevent diverse representation and cultivate an environment where leaders from all backgrounds feel empowered to make a difference.
