After a rigorous national recruitment process, the City of Suisun City is proud to announce the selection of Bret Prebula as the next city manager. Following interviews with a panel of community members and the City Council, Mr. Prebula emerged as the successful candidate from a pool of 23 applicants spanning multiple states. The City Council approved an employment agreement and announced the appointment of Mr. Prebula during their March 12, 2024, City Council meeting.
Mayor Alma Hernandez shared the excitement of the City Council in welcoming Bret to the City of Suisun City. “We interviewed several very qualified candidates and the Council agreed that Bret would be a great leader for Suisun City who can work well with staff, businesses, and community members alike. He brings a strong desire to engage directly with our residents and a wealth of experience relevant to moving the city forward.”
Mr. Prebula brings a decade and a half of experience in local government, having served his career with the County of Napa, City of Napa and the City of Benicia. Mr. Prebula has a versatile skill set serving in various capacities such as management analyst, assistant treasurer-tax collector, finance director, IT director and assistant city manager. Bret also spent time as a local business entrepreneur. Most recently, he served as city manager for the City of Clayton. With a Master of Business Administration degree under his belt, Mr. Prebula is well-equipped to lead Suisun City into its next phase of growth and development.
A Bay Area native, Mr. Prebula was born and raised in Vallejo and currently resides in Benicia with his wife Jaclyn, daughter Emersen, and their three dogs. Prior to his career in local government, he spent time as a professional golfer and Head Pro at Mare Island Golf Course in Vallejo, as well as owning his own golf store.
Expressing his eagerness to assume his new role, Mr. Prebula stated, “I feel so lucky to have touched so many different facets of municipal work during my career, and I believe these experiences have primed me to effectively lead the city. I am committed to creating a municipality focused on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and fostering community understanding of the value provided by city staff.”
Mr. Prebula is slated to begin his tenure as city manager on April 15, 2024.
