Born and raised in the neighboring town of Delano to immigrant parents from Mexico, Diego’s journey is one of resilience, dedication and an unwavering commitment to public service. His roots in Kern County have instilled in him a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within communities like McFarland, especially for low-income and disadvantaged populations.
A proud alumnus of Cesar E. Chavez High School in Delano and California State University, Northridge, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, Mr. Viramontes is also a Certified Public Accountant, accredited by the California Board of Accountancy. His professional journey has been marked by a steadfast dedication to enhancing the financial health and sustainability of local governments, ensuring they serve the needs of their communities effectively and equitably.
Prior to his new role, Diego served as the finance director for the City of McFarland, where he was instrumental in improving financial management practices, fostering transparency and championing fiscal strategies that cater to the needs of all community members. His leadership in finance and accounting has not only strengthened McFarland’s financial foundation but also reflected his deep commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
