The City of Ventura is excited to announce the appointment of Emily Fox as the new assistant Parks and Recreation director. Since joining the department in 2018 as recreation manager, Emily has played a vital role in leading the Community Partnerships Division. Her leadership has been instrumental in managing senior services, public art, historic sites, cultural and recreation programs, event permitting and community gardens.
“Emily’s extensive experience in local government, combined with her deep commitment to our community, will bring transformative leadership to our department,” said Stacey Zarazua, Parks and Recreation director. “Her talent for guiding complex projects and creating sustainable strategies will be invaluable as we continue to enhance the quality of life in Ventura.”
With over 28 years of experience in both the private and municipal parks and recreation sectors, Emily’s career spans strategic planning, operations management, communications and program development. She began her professional journey in the non-profit and private sectors before moving into local government roles in Poway, Irvine and Santa Barbara.
“I’m excited to continue serving our community in this new role,” said Emily Fox. “Ensuring that our parks, open spaces and recreation programs and services are accessible to everyone is crucial for building a healthy and vibrant community. I’m honored to work with Stacey, our dedicated team and our community partners to further these initiatives.”
Emily is a California Parks and Recreation Society member and the National Recreation and Park Association member. She is a certified California Parks and Recreation professional and has held various leadership roles aimed at advancing the field.
The Parks and Recreation Department offers over 1,800 diverse programs and services and operates key facilities such as the Ventura Aquatic Center, Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center, historic sites like Olivas Adobe and community centers across the city. Additionally, the department maintains over 46 parks covering more than 800 acres, including the City’s open spaces, urban forest, sports fields, beaches and community gardens.
