City of Palmdale logoThe City of Palmdale is thrilled to announce that its documentary, “The Great Food Rescue,” won first place in the Environmental category of the Southern California and Nevada (SCAN) National Association of Telecommunications Officers of America (NATOA) Star Awards, hosted by the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO).

The City accepted the accolade on September 26 at the Star Awards Banquet held on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, during the SCAN-NATOA Spring Conference. Palmdale’s in-house Communications and Innovation and Environmental divisions collaborated to produce the 20-minute documentary that highlights the City’s efforts to partner with local businesses and organizations to recover food and distribute it to those facing food insecurity in the community.

“I am very proud of our Communications and Environmental divisions for coming together to produce an educational documentary that sheds light on the challenges of food insecurity and showcases how the City is making a difference with SAVES,” said Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop. “Receiving this award emphasizes our commitment to edible food recovery and our dedication to serving all members of the community in partnership with local organizations.”

The SCAN-NATOA Star Awards celebrate exceptional government programming in California and Nevada. Winning first place in the Environmental category distinguishes the City’s documentary as an exemplary and innovative representation of its efforts to combat food insecurity in the South Antelope Valley.

“‘The Great Food Rescue’ is a powerful and engaging documentary,” said Palmdale Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa. “Hearing from community members directly impacted by the City’s initiative to recover edible food for redistribution at SAVES, along with the dedicated staff and volunteers, was truly inspiring. I hope this documentary encourages more residents to volunteer and reassures food-insecure individuals that resources are available to them.”
