Jim Purtee, former Palmdale city manager and long-time Simi Valley public servant, passed away on November 23, 2024.
Jim dedicated his life to serving the public with over 32 years in local government. He began his career at the City of Simi Valley in 1988 where he made an impact in roles ranging from community services to economic development. In 2012 he became Simi Valley’s assistant city manager in 2012 until 2015 when he became part of the Palmdale family as their city manager.
In 2019 Jim was honored by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the premier local government leadership and management organization, at its annual conference in Baltimore for his significant contributions and achievements in advancing local government administration for over 30 years. Following this honor, Jim announced his retirement in December 2019 but continued to advise Library Systems & Services and Schneider Electric until his passing.
Jim was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart Tina for 33 years and a loving father to Erika, Elyssa, Ariana and Ethan. He was deeply committed to supporting military veterans, advocating for mental health programs and improving the well-being of local youth. He was a passionate volunteer, especially with veterans’ organizations, and served on the Board of Directors for Palmdale Regional Medical Center.

Jim’s legacy of service and dedication to others stands as a testament to his resolute values. His work will remains and is cherished by all who knew him and his impact on his community and the people he served will never be forgotten.
