Buellton sealOn Saturday, February 8, 2025, the City of Buellton held a Grand Opening Celebration for its new library at 202 Dairyland Road in Buellton. Buellton Mayor David Silva, along with Former Mayor and President of the Friends of the Buellton Library Holly Sierra cut the ribbon at event, with thanks to all who helped make the project a reality. The celebration event included activities for children and adults alike, including a book sale to benefit the Friends of the Buellton Library, facility tours and art and play opportunities provided by the Santa Ynez Children’s Museum, the Buellton Recreation Department and the Buellton Library staff.

The opening of the library represents a five year effort on the part of the City to acquire the property, engage the community and design and construct the facility. Mayor Silva said, “We are thrilled to bring this new Library and Community Center to Buellton. This facility will serve as a vibrant social and cultural hub for our residents. Nestled along the Santa Ynez River with the mountains as a stunning backdrop, it complements the community amenities of the adjacent River View Park and the Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Gardens. Together, these community assets enhance the natural beauty of our Valley, offering opportunities for social connection, cultural and intellectual enrichment and peaceful reflection.”

The new library replaces an older facility located at 140 W. Highway 246. The old building was a converted barracks building moved to Buellton from US Army Camp Cooke (now Vandenberg Space Force Base) in the 1950s. Also the location of Buellton’s City Council Chambers, the former library space has been re-occupied by the Santa Ynez Community Outreach, a non-profit organization which serves the Santa Ynez Valley with a wide variety of services, including the preparation and delivery of Meals On Wheels within Buellton and the operation of the Buellton Senior Center.

The hours of the newly-opened Buellton Library are 10:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday and Tuesday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm on Wednesday, and 11:00 am – 4:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. The library is closed on Thursday and Sunday. For more information on the library, visit the Buellton Library Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/BuelltonLibraries
