The City of American Canyon partnered with Tripepi Smith to elevate its 2025 State of the City process, transforming it from a traditional livestream video into a multi-faceted, citywide experience. This year’s approach included an all-new open house event at city hall, where residents could engage directly with city leaders, meet newly elected officials and explore the city’s progress through interactive stations and a video series built around the city’s “Live, Work and Play” messaging.
“Our State of the City ‘roadshow’ — what I like to call our experience of State of the City events and materials — was a huge success in engaging the community and uniting our residents,” said American Canyon City Manager Jason Holley. “This series of events was an opportunity to reflect on our city’s progress, share our vision for the future and celebrate the partnerships that make it all possible. Thanks to Tripepi Smith’s communications, graphic design and video teams, we were able to elevate the experience with creative and interactive elements, making the event more dynamic and engaging for all.”
Tripepi Smith Senior Business Analyst Kalee Cummings led the project with support from Senior Graphic Designers Kjerstin Wingert and Sean Talbot, Business Analysts Kayla Cao and Amy Gallagher, Junior Videographer Daniel Ceruti, Junior Graphic Designer Alexis Mendez and Junior Business Analyst Avi Vemuri.
The team introduced a redesigned State of the City publication, shifting to a sleek magazine-style format that was mailed to all residents for the first time. In addition, they developed an interactive event passport, custom stickers to act as passport stamps, and engaging station and event signage to bring the open house experience to life.
A key component of this year’s event was a three-part video series produced by Tripepi Smith. Instead of the city’s previous livestream format, the videos — titled “Live,” “Work” and “Play” — provided an evergreen showcase of the city’s initiatives in each of these areas. At the Open House, each station was dedicated to one of these themes and was staffed by relevant city personnel, allowing residents to watch the videos, ask questions and engage with city leaders. Visitors also had the opportunity to collect passport ‘stamps’ from each station, which could then be entered into a raffle.
The open house was just the first stop in the State of the City roadshow. At subsequent events — including those hosted at the local high school, adult activity center and chamber of commerce — the city presented a fourth compilation video produced by Tripepi Smith that combined the three original videos with additional commentary from the mayor. These gatherings provided additional opportunities for live Q&As, targeted messaging to specific community groups and deeper community engagement.
“We are grateful to support the City of American Canyon in its communications efforts year-round, and being part of such a dynamic State of the City experience was a special opportunity,” said Kalee. “American Canyon is really committed to connecting with its community in meaningful ways, and the State of the City roadshow does just that. The whole process was a fun, innovative and exciting way to meet that goal, and we’re proud to have played a role in bringing it to life.”
