The City of American Canyon is proud to announce the promotion of Alexandra Ikeda to Deputy City Manager, effective July 5. Ikeda has served as Parks and Recreation Director since January 2022 and has directed the City’s communications efforts since April 2025. As Deputy City Manager, Ikeda will continue to oversee the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and newly enhanced Communications group in a permanent capacity.
“Allie brings over two decades of public service experience to the table and has been instrumental in strengthening our parks and recreation programs while successfully jumping into expanded communications responsibilities earlier this year,” said City Manager Jason Holley. “Allie’s commitment to community engagement, combined with her proven leadership abilities, makes her ideally suited for this new role. The Deputy City Manager position will allow her to provide strategic oversight while continuing to lead these important functions.”
Ikeda’s journey in public service began as a swim instructor and lifeguard. She secured her first full-time position with the City of Hercules while earning a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies from Cal State University East Bay. Her extensive background includes serving as Recreation Department Manager for the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District, where she also functioned as the District’s Public Information Officer and oversaw marketing, communications and emergency operations.
“I am honored to take on this expanded leadership role,” said Ikeda. “I look forward to continuing to lead our incredible parks and recreation team while also ensuring our citywide communications efforts help all departments better connect with and serve our residents.”
During her tenure as American Canyon’s Parks and Recreation Director, Ikeda has successfully managed operations of parks, open spaces, facilities and recreation programs while building strong community partnerships. Her leadership has been marked by transparency, integrity and a deep commitment to serving residents.
Ikeda is a graduate of the NRPA Directors School (2023) and has served in leadership roles with the National Recreation and Park Association’s Aquatics Network, including as Chair from 2023-2024. She holds the J. Lindsey Wolf Certificate in Communications from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) and completed CAPIO’s Leadership Summit in 2024. Most recently, Ikeda completed CAPIO’s Emergency Communications Academy, hosted in partnership with CalOES.
This promotion underscores American Canyon’s commitment to developing leadership from within and investing in employees who have demonstrated exceptional service to the community.
