The City of Paramount briefly became the epicenter for attention on immigration enforcement when crowds gathered and became violent over an alleged raid at a Home Depot located in the city.
Later reports revealed that a Homeland Security office has been located in the City since 2007 and federal agents were staging at the office for activity elsewhere in Los Angeles County. The protesting turned violent and resulted in the deployment of Los Angeles sheriff deputies to quell the protests and disburse the crowd. An individual who was throwing objects at federal vehicles leaving the scene has been placed on the FBI most wanted list.
In response to both the misinformation about the incident and to generally address resident concerns, Mayor Peggy Lemons and Vice Mayor Brenda Olmos produced a public service announcement for their residents to address the incident and affirm their commitment to all residents, regardless of immigration status.
