The City of Oxnard is pleased to announce that Brenda Lopez has been appointed as Oxnard’s new Housing Director, following a nationwide search and her success serving as Interim Housing Director.
Lopez joined the City in 2016, where she was responsible for overseeing the Oxnard Housing Authority and its annual budget of approximately $31.5 million. Most recently, she served as Oxnard’s Interim Housing Director and previously held the roles of Assistant Director and Housing Programs Manager, overseeing the City’s Public Housing, Grants Management and Affordable Housing initiatives.
Oxnard City Manager Alexander Nguyen stated, “We’re excited for Brenda to lead the Housing Department. Her housing policy knowledge and years of service to the Oxnard community will be an asset in addressing two of the State’s most pressing issues—housing and homelessness, which remain increasingly vital as we face both federal and state budget cuts.”
Before joining the City, Lopez served in executive leadership roles in the nonprofit sector, including as CEO of Surepath Financial Solutions, where she oversaw initiatives related to financial education, housing counseling and community development. She brings more than 17 years of experience across both public and private sectors, with a strong background in finance, compliance, strategic planning and organizational development.
As Housing Director, Lopez will continue overseeing the Housing Authority while also leading the City’s Homeless Services, Grants Management, Economic Development, and Rent Stabilization and Tenant Protection programs. She will continue the City’s efforts to expand affordable housing, address homelessness and oversee safe, quality housing programs in Oxnard.
Lopez holds an MBA in Management and Organizational Behavior and a B.S. in Business Administration from California Lutheran University.
