Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) Partner and Head of Appellate Practice Ryan McGinley-Stempel has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Achievement in Public Law (OAPL) award by the California Lawyers Association (CLA). The prestigious honor recognizes exceptional accomplishments and contributions to the field of public law in California.
“I’m honored to receive this recognition for my work to empower public agencies to carry out their core public missions,” said Ryan. “The award is really a reflection of the collaborative efforts of our entire appellate team to continue advancing the interests of public agencies across California.”
The award will be formally presented during the CLA Annual Meeting Awards Reception on September 12, celebrating Ryan’s significant impact on public law practice and his commitment to advancing legal excellence in the public sector.
As head of RPLG’s Appellate Practice, Ryan has built a distinguished career representing public agencies, nonprofit organizations and private clients in complex appellate matters. His recent victories include landmark California Supreme Court cases Prang v. Los Angeles County Assessment Appeals Board and Stone v. Alameda Health System. He also played a key role in the firm’s U.S. Supreme Court victory for the City of Stockton in Hittle v. City of Stockton.
Ryan has earned numerous accolades for his work, including being named a Northern California Super Lawyers Rising Star recognition in Constitutional Law for three consecutive years. He also received the Amicus Service award from the International Municipal Lawyers Association alongside Founding Partner Art Hartinger.
