Following an extensive recruitment process, José Arreola has been selected by the City Council to be its next city manager. He will replace Steve Adams, who is retiring after serving 10 years in the position. Mr. Arreola was selected from 31 applicants. His first day on the job is scheduled to be February 23. Everyone is invited to welcome the new city manager at the Council meeting on February 24 at 6:00 p.m.
José Arreola has a distinguished career of serving the community with a particular emphasis on youth. He has worked for the City of Salinas for 12 years as their community safety program manager, community safety administrator and assistant to the city manager. Among other responsibilities, he has led several programs to eliminate gang violence which aligns well with the City of King’s efforts and priorities. Prior to that, he worked as an education specialist for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County and principal at the Downtown College Preparatory charter school in San Jose. Mr. Arreola graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University, is bilingual and lives in the Salinas Valley with his wife and three children.
