City of Baldwin Park logoBeginning July 1, the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. (IVHS) will officially begin providing comprehensive animal care and control services for the incorporated areas of the City of Baldwin Park. This new partnership marks an exciting new chapter in local animal welfare, expanding residents’ access to compassionate care, enhanced field services and valuable resources for pets and their families.

“Protecting our local animals and supporting the families who love them is a top priority for Baldwin Park,” said Baldwin Park Mayor Daniel Damian. “Partnering with IVHS allows us to champion progressive initiatives like ‘Getting to Zero’ and gives our residents direct access to elite veterinary care and proactive resources right where they live.”

With this transition, Baldwin Park will benefit from a highly localized service model, featuring a dedicated Animal Control Officer assigned exclusively to the city. Available seven days a week, this officer will focus entirely on the Baldwin Park community, improving response times for field service calls, stray and injured animals, local wildlife inquiries and public safety concerns.

“We are honored to begin serving the Baldwin Park community,” said Nikole Bresciani, President and CEO of Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. “Our team is ready to provide responsive animal care and control services while connecting residents with programs and resources that support pets and their families.”

What Residents Needs to Know:
To ensure a smooth transition, residents should note the following key updates starting July 1.

  • Service Area: IVHS will handle services exclusively for the incorporated areas of Baldwin Park. Unincorporated areas outside of the city limits will continue to be serviced by LA County Animal Care and Control through the Baldwin Park shelter.
  • New Shelter Location: Residents in incorporated Baldwin Park will no longer utilize the LA County shelter facility located within the city for stray animal drop-offs, owner surrenders or lost pet reunifications. All stray animals picked up within the city will now be safely transported to the IVHS Main Shelter Campus located at 500 Humane Way, Pomona, CA 91766.
  • Seamless Pet Licensing: All current pet licenses will automatically transfer from LA County to IVHS. Pet owners will receive future renewal notifications via mail or email from DocuPet on behalf of IVHS, requiring no immediate action from owners. Pet owners will be able to license online, via mail, via phone or in-person at IVHS.
  • Expanded Community Resources: Through IVHS, Baldwin Park pet owners will gain access to low-cost veterinary care at the Alex and Elisabeth Lewyt Medical Center, mobile spay/neuter services via “The Good Mobile,” Trap-Neuter-Return programs for community cats and the “Kibble Cupboard” pet food and supply assistance program.

Additionally, the City of Baldwin Park has adopted the Getting to Zero initiative in partnership with IVHS. This initiative focuses on eliminating the euthanasia of healthy and adoptable animals through proactive community strategies, including robust foster networks, rescue partnerships and managed intake practices.

The City and IVHS have worked closely to ensure a seamless transition of services. Residents will experience uninterrupted access to animal services under the current County model and the Baldwin Park shelter through the remainder of June.

Following the transition on July 1, Baldwin Park residents should contact IVHS Customer Care at 909-623-9777 (Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) for animal control requests, reporting stray or injured animals or general questions. For immediate after-hours animal emergencies, residents should call 909-594-9858.

A detailed list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding this transition, shelter changes and service adjustments is available on the IVHS website.
