Contra Costa County logoContra Costa County Public Works Department’s Energy Management Team was awarded the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Readiness Award by the New Motor Vehicle Board (NMVB). This award recognizes the County’s leadership in advancing clean transportation, reducing emissions, and supporting healthier communities.

The County was honored for its comprehensive planning to transition facilities, fleets, and communities to zero‑emission transportation. This includes major investments supported by a California Energy Commission grant, which will expand Level 2 and DC fast‑charging infrastructure across fleet locations.

Contra Costa County also serves as a regional leader by bringing together cities and public agencies to coordinate transportation electrification efforts. Additional initiatives, such as the EV‑4‑All community charging concept, highlight the County’s commitment to expanding access to clean transportation for the communities we serve.

Workforce development is another key achievement. Through partnerships with local school districts and the Contra Costa Community College District, the County supports training pathways for future EV technicians—including internships and pre‑apprenticeship programs tied to charger installation and maintenance.

“It’s an honor for the County to be recognized by the California New Motor Vehicle Board with the Zero Emission Vehicle Readiness Award,” said Public Works Director Warren Lai. “This recognition affirms our County Board of Supervisors’ leadership in sustainability as well as the meaningful progress our County Public Works Energy Management team has made towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for our communities.”
