Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) is pleased to announce the promotion of Imran Dar to senior counsel. Imran’s work spans complex matters involving statutory and constitutional authority, labor and employment, separation of powers and affirmative litigation designed to protect public resources and vulnerable populations.
“This promotion means a great deal to me, as advancing through the associate ranks signifies a meaningful shift in my relationship with the firm,” said Imran. “It is a new chapter in my development as an attorney and one I am both excited and humbly challenged to begin.”
Since joining RPLG, Imran has played a vital role in some of the firm’s most significant litigation matters. Most recently, he co-authored briefs before the California Court of Appeal in Independent Office of Law v. Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, securing a landmark decision that affirmed voter-approved powers for independent police oversight alongside Partner and Head of Appellate Practice Ryan McGinley-Stempel. His litigation track record also includes successfully defending local government entities in high-profile municipal disputes, such as Essick v. County of Sonoma and Los Angeles Police Protective League v. City of Los Angeles, as well as invalidating unconscionable corporate agreements in Hasty v. American Automobile Assn of Northern Cal., Nev. & Utah.
In addition to his courtroom advocacy, Imran served as executive editor for the Rutter Group California Practice Guide, Public Sector Employment Litigation in 2024. He frequently presents on labor relations and public sector legal challenges at industry conferences. His exceptional work earned him recognition as a Northern California Super Lawyers Rising Star in General Litigation for three consecutive years.
“Imran brings incredible focus and a sharp courtroom presence to some of the most challenging issues facing local governments today,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “His dedication to the public interest and thoughtful approach to complex cases make him a vital advocate for our clients and our mission. We are excited to see him step into this leadership role as senior counsel.”
Prior to joining RPLG, Imran served as a judicial fellow for Judge Laurel Beeler in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and investigated election law violations as a New York Excelsior Service Fellow.
Imran holds a B.A. from Bard College, and earned his J.D., cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, where he received the Federal Bar Council’s Cornelius Wickersham Jr. Award for being the highest-ranking student in the field of constitutional law.
RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies and nonprofits, providing courageous, creative and responsive solutions.
