City of Vacaville logoThe City of Vacaville has reached a major milestone for the Vaca Valley Parkway/I-505 Multimodal Improvements Project, formally securing $14,887,000 in federal grant funding following six years of project planning, design, community engagement, and coordination.

The federal funding was obligated July 27, 2026, and combines funding from the 2023 Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending (CPFCDS) Cycle 2 award and the Fiscal Year 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Implementation Grant. The nearly $15 million investment will support construction of significant safety, mobility, and multimodal improvements along the Vaca Valley Parkway corridor.

“Securing nearly $15 million in federal funding is a major milestone for a project the City has advanced for six years,” said Public Works Director Brian Oxley. “This investment will improve safety and traffic flow at a critical interchange, close a long-standing bicycle and pedestrian gap, and deliver a more connected corridor for residents, businesses, and visitors.”

The project is fully funded through a combination of these federal grants and development impact fees. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 and continue for approximately 18 months. Access to businesses and residences in the project area will be maintained during construction.

About the Project

The project will improve the Vaca Valley Parkway corridor from just west of the East Monte Vista Avenue/Crocker Drive intersection through the I-505 interchange. Planned improvements include replacing three existing intersections with modern roundabouts to improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points, installing ramp meters at the northbound and southbound I-505 on-ramps, and constructing a new separated bicycle and pedestrian crossing over I-505.

The new bicycle and pedestrian facility will close an approximately 1,700-foot gap in Vacaville’s active transportation network, creating a safer and more accessible east-west connection across the interstate. Improvements are also designed to better accommodate people with disabilities and improve connectivity between neighborhoods, businesses, employment centers, and other destinations.

Additional construction information, traffic impacts, and pre-construction community engagement will be provided as the project approaches construction.
