City of RialtoIn partnership with the Rialto Water Service and Veolia, the City of Rialto has completed a $3.1 million sewer improvement project along Sycamore Avenue. The Sycamore Avenue Sewer Trunk Line Project modernizes a critical component of the city’s wastewater system, supporting reliable service for current residents while also laying the groundwork for future development.
Driven by ongoing residential growth in North Rialto that pushed the previous sewer line near capacity, the project replaced portions of the existing 8-inch sewer main between Walnut St. and Heather St. with approximately 5,200 feet of a larger 15-inch trunk line. The expanded pipeline significantly increases capacity, improving the reliability of Rialto’s wastewater system and ensuring long-term sustainability.

“The City of Rialto is proud to invest in improvements that not only benefit our current residents, but also allow for future residential, commercial and industrial development,” said Mayor Joe Baca.

Throughout the project, the City and its contractor prioritized neighborhood safety and convenience. Prior to construction, crews distributed door hangers to notify nearby households. Work near critical intersections included ongoing traffic alerts to reduce disruption, and paving near Morgan Elementary School was intentionally scheduled outside of morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups to avoid impacts. These communication efforts kept nearby residents informed from the start of the project through its October completion, which followed paving work and striping.

Because these vital infrastructure improvements are hidden underground, residents won’t see the changes directly — but they will benefit from a more reliable sewer system that meets current demand and future growth.

“The Sycamore Avenue Sewer Trunk Line Project demonstrates the City’s commitment to enhancing local infrastructure,” said Director of Public Works Yazdan Emrani. “This work ensures Rialto neighborhoods will have reliable service for years to come.”
