On Oct. 5, the City of Rialto Fire Department quickly contained a commercial structure fire at an apartment complex located at 380 N. Linden. While the cause of the fire remains under active investigation, the City of Rialto’s immediate focus is supporting residents displaced by the incident.Due to the current heat wave, there are limited shelter options within Rialto. To support residents and ensure safe lodging for impacted households, the City has provided vouchers to families to stay in a nearby hotel until new vacant units were secured. Further, the City leveraged its ongoing partnership with the American Red Cross to provide meals for the families. Funding for the temporary lodging was secured through City Council action in 2025, when they established a permanent emergency relief fund for these types of emergencies.
“I am proud of Rialto Fire’s quick action and advanced planning. Having emergency resources ready allowed us to secure immediate housing for our displaced families and ensure no one was left without support,” said City Manager Tanya Williams. “The City of Rialto is committed to serving and protecting our residents, especially when they need it most.”
The City is actively working with the property management company to ensure they secure alternative housing for the affected households. As of Oct. 7, all but five of the families have secured new housing. The City anticipates that the property management team will secure housing for the remaining five by the end of the week.
