Culver City logoThe City Council received announcement of Police Chief Jason Sims’ planned retirement following more than 26 years of service with the Culver City Police Department.

Chief Sims joined CCPD as a Police Officer in 2000 and advanced through the ranks, serving as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and ultimately becoming the Department’s 27th Chief of Police in January 2023.

Throughout his career, Chief Sims served in assignments spanning patrol, investigations, traffic, professional standards, administration, and community and media relations. As Chief, he emphasized a collaborative and community-centered approach to policing, with a focus on professionalism, procedural justice, and strong relationships with the community.

City Council has appointed Assistant Chief Troy Dunlap as Acting Chief of Police beginning November 2, 2026.
