Advocates in the medical marijuana community are speaking out against Proposition 19.

On Tuesday, supporters of medical marijuana spoke out against California’s ballot initiative to legalize the drug for recreational use and tax its sales.

Advocates of medical marijuana, led by the California Cannabis Association, stated that Prop 19 would inadvertently harm patients who use the drug by allowing local governments to ban marijuana sales in their respective jurisdictions.

The thought is that many cities and counties would prohibit medical marijuana sales if Prop 19 is passed.

No state has ever legalized and regulated the recreational use of marijuana.
